Example of balance transfer

You can make a balance transfer with US bank Visa Platinum, but it is not wise as it is likely that you will no longer be eligible for the intro APR offer on balance transfers. This means you will immediately pay interest on your card balance.

Let’s say $5,000 has been issued Credit card debt Transferred to a new card within the first month of opening an account. Transferring that balance to any card will result in a $150 balance transfer fee, which will result in a total balance of $5,150. Also, let’s say you get an average continuous APR on both cards, so you get 24.24% on US Bank Visa Platinum and 24.62% on City Simple. This is a breakdown of how long it takes to repay each balance and what you spend on interest, depending on your monthly payment.

Monthly payments for both cards Total interest and time to repay balances for city simplicity Total interest and time to repay the balance of US Bank Visa Platinum
$250 Time to repay your balance: 20 months
Total Interest: $0
Time to repay your balance: 28 months
Total Interest: $1,611
$205 Time to repay your balance: 25 months
Total Interest: $183.24
Time to repay your balance: 36 months
Total Interest: $2,163
$175 Time to repay your balance: 30 months

Buy example intro offer

If you are trying to repay a purchase, things will change. US Bank Visa Platinum has only recently been discontinued, so current cardholders can enjoy the intro APR offer with purchases up to 2026. So, let’s say you spend $3,000 on a new purchase within the first month of opening a card account. In this example, we use the same continuous APR of 24.24% on US Bank Visa Platinum and 24.62% on City simplicity. Depending on how much time you can pay back each month, here is how long it will take, and how much you will pay for profit.

Monthly payments for both cards Total interest and time to repay balances for city simplicity Total interest and time to repay the balance of US Bank Visa Platinum
$300 Time to repay your balance: 10 months
Total Interest: $0
Time to repay your balance: 10 months
Total Interest: $0
$200 Time to repay your balance: 16 months
Total Interest: $25
Time to repay your balance: 15 months
Total Interest: $0
$150 Time to repay your balance: 21 months
Total Interest: $124
Time to repay your balance: 20 months
Total Interest: $0

The US bank Visa Platinum’s introductory APR period is 21 months, so as long as you pay everything within that period, you won’t pay interest. However, the simplicity of the city makes that same time frame even more expensive for you.

We only offer a 12-month introductory APR period for your purchase, so if you can’t afford a monthly payment, you will need to pay interest. If you can only pay $200 a month, you’ll pay it back in 16 months with $25 interest. If you can only pay $150 a month, you can pay a total of $124 in interest in 21 months.
