Legacy Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Cards no longer accept new applicants as of July 2024, but existing cardholders can still use the card. Those interested in Legacy Capital can taste cash rewards credit cards and check out new ones Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit CardIt was previously known as the Savorone card.

As spending habits and financial situations naturally evolve over time, it makes sense that wallet credit cards will also evolve. If you’re not interested in opening a new account, consider upgrading or downgrading a card you already have instead. As a Capital One customer, you can easily upgrade or downgrade your credit card with the same issuer.

If your credit score improves and you want to start earning more rewards for your purchases, the upgrade can be the right move for you. However, if you want to get away from cards with higher annual fees, downgrades can be a wise decision. Capital One eligibility requirements provide steps to upgrade or downgrade a card and complete the process.

Upgrade or downgrade Capital 1 eligibility

Capital One does not clearly outline eligibility requirements for upgrading or downgrading your account. However, the general rule is that if you request a product change, your current account must be in good condition and you will need a positive payment history.

Furthermore, due to the Credit Card Accountability and Disclosure (Cards) Act, card issuers cannot raise annual fees within one year of opening an account. This means that you will likely have to wait for at least a year to get your current card to upgrade if your preferred card has a high annual fee.

Upgrade and downgrade options vary based on several factors, including the cards you currently have. Not all cards can be upgraded or downgraded. For example, if a Bank Rate Writer and Capital’s one Quicksilver Cash Rewards credit card account holder is referred to as the customer service department of a bank, you were notified that you would not downgrade your account.

How to upgrade your Capital One credit card

Upgrading your Capital One credit card is a fairly easy process. The general steps are:

  1. Check your credit score and income level. Capital One uses profiles to determine whether it’s suitable for an upgrade, so it’s best to start this request when your credit score reaches its highest. If you are making more money than when you originally applied for your card, it is not harmful that your issuer will provide you with updated income information.
  2. Look at one capital: Capital One frequently reviews your profile and may recommend other cards that are perfect for you. You can log in to your account, select your current credit card, go to the “I…” menu with a gear icon next to it, then select “Show View and Upgrades” to see if there are eligible upgrade offers. From there, select “Explore Upgrades” to see if the product is eligible for changes.
  3. Request a product change: If you find a favorite offer while browsing online, you can easily click on the button to upgrade to that card. Alternatively, you can call Capital One and complete the process like that. If you are unsure which card you will need, you can inquire about what you are eligible and what we recommend. Explain why you want to upgrade and be prepared to respond to questions such as questions about your income.

Capital One examines your existing account to determine whether you qualify for your new card. Usually you will receive your decision immediately (request an upgrade online or by phone). If approved, the bank will send you a new card.

How to Downgrade a Capital One Credit Card

When it’s time to downgrade your Capital One credit card, follow the same process as if you wanted to upgrade your account.

  1. Please contact Capital 1 and request a downgrade. Normally, you won’t see downgrade offers on your online account in the same way as an upgrade, so it’s best to just call the number on the back of your card to get started.
  2. Ask about your options:iI have in mind the cards I want to downgrade, which is great, but there may be more options than I notice.
  3. Please choose a card that matches your current spending and goals. For example, if you are trying to avoid annual fees, it is best to choose a card without annual fees.

Once the bank processes your request, a new card will be mailed to you.

Bankrate credit card expert and writer Katie Kelton shares her experiences.

When I first applied for my Capital One Savor Cash Rewards credit card, I was able to justify the $95 annual fee with the cashback I enjoyed with my lifestyle purchases. A few years later I was able to go out and travel more…I thought it was time for me to downgrade. I had to call Capital One and bypass the phone tree, but did not offer the option to change the card to speak to the representative. But once I got someone on the phone she helped me upgrade my card – she didn’t call it a downgrade – on the taste card. I received the remaining refund of my annual fee and received my new card in the mail a few weeks later.

Which cards do I need to upgrade?

Upgrading your Capital 1 credit card might be a good idea if the changes help you achieve your goals. However, you need to weigh the pros and cons between old and new cards and make an informed decision.

Which cards do I need to downgrade?

Downgrading a single capital credit card can be a wise idea if it matches your financial plan. However, you should consider your options carefully before making a decision.

Conclusion

Upgrading or downgrading a Capital 1 credit card is a simple process that can be performed over the phone. If you are upgrading your card through an account offer, you also have the option to start the process online.

Before upgrading or downgrading your card, compare it closely with other cards that Capital One offers. Once the process is complete, you don’t want to be caught off guard by the lack of annual fees and benefits. Finally, feel free to ask questions during the process. You can talk to a customer service representative about your options by calling the number on the back of the card.

And if you can’t find a Capital One card that looks like a better fit? Keep an eye on other publishers. Depending on your goal, applying for a new card may be a better option than upgrading or downgrading an existing card.

For Capital One products listed on this page, some of the above benefits are provided by Visa® or MasterCard® and may vary depending on the product. Terminology and exclusions apply, so please refer to the guide to each benefit for more information.
