Liberty Mutual RightTrack Review | Bankrate

Telematics’ auto insurance options have become increasingly popular in recent years as a way for safe drivers to lower car insurance premiums. The offering of Liberty Mutual, a program called RightTrack, helps you monitor driving habits and determine fees, like many other telematics programs, but there is a catch. Using RightTrack (and a few other telematics programs) can reduce your fees or Depending on how safe you drive. Before you decide whether RightTrack is the right telematics program, we’ll guide you through the internal mechanisms of the RightTrack program so you can determine if it’s right for you.

What is Liberty Mutual RightTrack?

The Liberty Mutual RightTrack is designed to more accurately determine the cost of car insurance drivers based on driving safely. Program participants agree to send driving data to Liberty Mutual via mobile apps or plug-in devices in exchange for potential discounts in the basic range of up to 30%, including liability, comprehensive, collision, and medical expenses coverage.

The result: drivers can get a highly tailored premium with their driving methods, and Liberty Mutual can encourage safe driving behavior with the possibility of reducing accident claims. The trade-off is, of course, that drivers who sign up for the program and exhibit unsafe habits can also see the increase in premiums.

How does Liberty Mutual RightTrack work?

RightTrack is available to free mutual auto policyholders in all states except Alaska, California, Hawaii, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota and South Dakota. In most states, the program uses a mobile app to track driver behavior, and all drivers in the policy recommend downloading the app individually to track driving. In New York, drivers will be mailed small plug-in devices because state insurance regulations do not allow tracking of vehicle mobile apps. Most drivers are eligible for an automatic 10% discount just to register on the right track.

Once the app or device is installed, participants should drive normally for 90 days and avoid unsafe driving habits. With each driving trip, the Liberty Mutual Mobile app or plug-in device records driver behavior such as hard braking, acceleration, night driving, and mileage. In most states, apps record rush hour driving, slow speed frequency, and distracted driving as measured by telematics data such as phone movement.

At the end of the 90-day review period, Liberty Mutual Review reviews driver data and applies discounts based on driving behavior. Drivers who score on the program are eligible for a discount of up to 30% on Liberty Mutual Auto Insurance Contracts, but if some drivers in the policy do not participate in the program, the discount may be reduced. Additionally, if your driving habits are significantly unsafe, you can see the premium rise at the end of the review period.

To join RightTrack using the app, you will need a smartphone with GPS location features and an accelerometer, gyroscope and proximity sensor. Some Android phones don’t have these features. iPad, tablet, and Windows phones are also not compatible.

What is the Liberty Mutual RightTrack monitor?

The RightTrack app collects a long list of telematics data, such as:

  • acceleration
  • braking
  • position
  • speed
  • Idol time
  • Turn the signal

However, not all of these factors apply directly to the discount. According to Liberty Mutual, three key driving actions monitored in most states are braking, acceleration and night driving. Rush-hour driving, slow-speed frequency, and distracted driving can also affect discounts in many states.

How much money can you save with Liberty Mutual RightTrack?

Auto insurance savings with RightTrack will depend on basic premiums and driving behavior during the review period, and whether all drivers on the insurance policy will participate in RightTrack.

Liberty Mutual instantly promotes a 10% discount to drivers registered on RightTrack, and promotes a total discount of up to 30% after the review period is complete. However, if all drivers in the policy are participating, the final discount will be smaller and the first 10% discount will be removed from the policy.

Also, if the program detects dangerous driving behavior, you can see the increase in premiums after joining RightTrack.

Liberty Mutual RightTrack Discount

RightTrack offers two car insurance discounts.

  • Participation discount: At registration, participants’ policies will be subject to an instant 10% participation discount.
  • Safe driving discounts: After driving for 90 days after registration, drivers will receive a discount of up to 30% on the next policy update.

These discounts may vary by state and may apply only to basic coverage, such as liability, conflict, comprehensive, uninsured/uninsured drivers, and personal injury protection (PIP), and there is no fixed costs for insurance contracts.

Do I need to register with Liberty Mutual RightTrack?

Signing up for RightTrack can help Liberty Mutual customers looking to save on car insurance and get cheaper coverage. That may be particularly useful for younger drivers whose policies are priced based on group risk factors that may not reflect how they actually drive. By allowing Liberty Mutual to track driving, you’ll be free from demographic-related risk factors and earn discounts based on how you actually drive.

It’s important to talk about policy through decisions as RightTrack can raise unsafe driving fees and reduce discounts if some drivers in the policy are not participating. It may not be an effective savings tool for households with mixed driving safety or those who need to drive frequently.

The Liberty Mutual Mobile app, including RightTrack, has generally received positive reviews from users, with an average of 4.8 stars from 403,000 reviews with 158,000 reviews and 4.6 stars of Android users. Key complaints from RightTrack users include the app not recording trips or recording misinformation, while others report that the app is easy to use for saving insurance.

Pros and Cons of Liberty Mutural RightTrack

Every driver has their own unique needs when it comes to car insurance. We recommend looking at the pros and cons to determine whether RightTrack is suitable.

How does Liberty Mutual RightTrack compare to other programs?

Liberty Mutual’s RightTrack is similar to the telematics program offered by other auto insurance companies. These programs generally work the same way. Policyholders and other drivers listed in the policy will download apps to your smartphone that allow you to monitor apps in real time. Some states may ban telematics programs or be limited to in-vehicle devices for surveillance.

RightTrack stands out for its shorter review period than most telematics apps and focuses on reducing driving behavior. This allows some drivers to make safe driving discounts easier, but the trade-off is that unlike some programs, the right truck can increase the rate if it detects unsafe driving.
