Free Spirit is the Frequent Flyer Spirit Airline Rewards Program, an ultra-low-cost airline that flies across the US, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. Members can earn points for every dollar spent on spirit flights, redeem points on free flights, and earn elite status.
Freedom spirit: basics
Free Spirit Members can earn points by purchasing airfares and additional services from Spirit Airlines, using a free Spirit credit card, or shopping with free Spirit partners. Members can redeem Flight or Select Spirit Partner points.
To earn free Spirit Points for Spirit Airlines travel, you will need to create a free Spirit account. It’s easy to join the Free Spirit program. From the free Spirit Homepage, click the Sign Up button to create an account.
Who has the best spirit?
If you prefer to fly with Spirit Airlines, you must have a free Spirit account that allows you to earn and redeem points within this program.
However, please note that Spirit Airlines does not have a partner airline. Free Spirit Points can only be spent with Spirit Air flights or with selected business partners, so earning transferable rewards in another program could be more advantageous. If you’re looking for a more flexible travel rewards program, we recommend looking at loyalty programs that earn common (and transferable) travel rewards, such as American Express Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards.
How to earn free spirit points
I’m flying with Spirit Airlines and making money
The most obvious way to earn rewards in any airline loyalty program is to fly with that airline. Free Spirit Members earn points in every dollar they spend on Spirit Airlines airfares. Because Free Spirit is a revenue-based frequent flyer program, members earn points based on how much they spend, not how many miles they fly. Free Spirit awards additional points to spend on additional services and fees.
Here are the points you can earn in the Free Spirit Program to purchase Spirit Airlines airfares and additional services:
Free Spirit Status Levels | General Members | silver | gold |
---|---|---|---|
Points earned per dollar in airfares | 6x points | 8x points | 10x points |
Earn per dollar with smart smart | 12x points | 16x points | 20x points |
Make money with a free spirit credit card
In a partnership with Bank of America, Spirit Airlines will offer two credit cards, allowing free Spirit members to earn additional points.
- FreeSpirit®TravelMasterCard®*. Card members earn double points on eligible spirit purchases and 1x points on all other spendings.
- FreeSpirit®TravelMore World Elite MasterCard®*. Card members earn 3x points on all eligible Spirit Airline purchases, 2x points on eligible meals and grocery purchases, and 1x points on all other purchases.
Make money with your free spirit partner
As an ultra-low-cost carrier, Spirit Airlines is not part of an airline alliance and has no airline partners. If you are looking for a travel loyalty program that allows you to transfer your rewards to other airline programs, we recommend considering earning rewards elsewhere.
However, Free Spirit members can earn additional points on many travel and online retail partners. If you’re looking to rent a car, book a cruise, start a mortgage, or shop online, you can check out our full list of free spirit partners for additional points revenue opportunities.

How to redeem your free spirit points
Redeem Spirit Airline flights
The main way you can redeem free spirit points is for flights. To redeem points on Spirit Airlines flights, search for flights on Spirit’s homepage and select the “Show fares at points” checkbox at the top of the screen to view prices in terms of free Spirit Points. If you don’t have enough points to purchase the selected flight, you can purchase additional points in Spirit to close your account while booking.
Spirit also offers cash and points options. If you don’t have enough points to buy the entire flight using Free Spirit Points, you will find that buying a flight with cash and points is more valuable than the points you buy.
Most ultra-low-cost carriers make up a large part of their profits by charging fees, and Spirit Air is no exception. Free Spirit Members booking their flight 28 days before departure can expect to pay a $50 remuneration fee, which is exempt for free Spirit Members with Silver or Gold Status or eligible Free Spirit Credit Cards. There is no redemption fee for flights booked at least 28 days in advance.
Exchange for your selected partner
While most members of Free Spirit want to redeem points on their flights, the program offers one option to redeem points that do not involve flights on Spirit Airlines. Currently, members can redeem points only for points. You can redeem a few free spirit points for subscriptions to any of the magazine titles via Point Mags.
How much is the value of Free Spirit Points?
The question of how valuable airline points are is frequently discussed. Compare cash prices with the same flight point prices and look at bank rate points and miles ratings for major airlines, hotels and credit card loyalty programs. For example, Bankrate scores points at Spirit Airlines’ Free Spirit Points at around 1.0 cents per point.
How do Free Spirit Points compare to other loyalty programs?
According to Bankrate’s rating, how Free Spirit Points are compared against the reward value of other popular airline loyalty programs is as follows:

FAQ
Conclusion
If you fly frequently with Spirit Airlines, it may make sense to earn and redeem points through the Free Spirit Program. Points can be earned by purchasing all the dollars you spend on Spirit Airlines, as well as through select partners. You can redeem points with airfares, airlines and selected business partners. Frequent Flyer also offers perks such as boarding shortcuts, choosing a seat when checking in, and high points earnings from Spirit Purchase.
That said, Spirit Airlines is not currently a member of the airline alliance. This means that unlike many frequent flyer programs, you cannot use free spirit points for flights with airline partners. Earning rewards for relocated trips through other programs could provide better overall value.
