Did you know that full-time remote workers can earn a $10,000 salary when they move to Tulsa, Oklahoma? Here’s what you need to know about Tulsa’s relocation incentive program and why you should consider this option as a remote worker. I will explain why there is.
You’ve probably heard of cities, big and small, offering incentives like cash, discounts on housing, free entertainment, and education fees to entice people to move to their area. These programs are designed to attract and retain talent such as teachers, nurses, seasonal workers, and professionals.
One city with an incentive migration program for talented remote workers is Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was lucky enough to be a guest last week and experience the city, its community, and several Tulsa remote events.
What is the Tulsa Remote Program?
Tulsa Remote is a program designed to attract full-time remote workers (individuals who already work remotely) to the City of Tulsa. Through this program, you can receive a $10,000 grant if you move to Tulsa and live there for at least a year.
In addition to financial incentives, you also get access to mentors, free events, and a free three-year membership to a huge coworking space. More on this later.
To be eligible for the program, you must:
- Be over 18 years old
- Be eligible to work in the United States
- Full-time remote employment available (outside of Oklahoma)
- Must be able to move to Tulsa within 12 months of application approval
- Must have resided outside of Oklahoma for at least one year prior to application
How do I become a program participant?
Moving to a new city is a big step, and Tulsa Remote wants to help you succeed once you get there. To do this, there is a five-step process that includes application, interview, program selection, optional hosted visit, and finally transportation.
All of the above criteria must be met to begin the application process. Of course, if you visit Tulsa before moving, Tulsa Remote will invite you for a hosted visit.
When you join a Hosted Visit, you’ll attend a three-day event organized by the Tulsa Remote team and meet others who are also interested in moving to Tulsa. Additionally, you and your guests will receive a $500 travel refund.
Once you are accepted into the program, you have 12 months to transition.
Why should I consider Tulsa?
What do you think of when you hear the words Tulsa, Oklahoma? Oil fields, horses, and people in cowboy boots and hats? Well, that’s the image that came to my mind too. But Tulsa is so much more than that. A vibrant and diverse community with live music, coffee shops, delicious restaurants, expansive parks, shopping, art, sporting events, outdoor activities, and more.
Although we were only in Tulsa for a few days, we were able to get a good sample of what the city has to offer. One space that really struck me was the Gathering Place. This expansive park is located along the Arkansas River and is a 100-acre park of beauty and enjoyment for the entire Tulsa community. The park is an inclusive facility that is free and open to everyone, with play areas for children of all ages, free classes including kayaking, bird watching, walking, and yoga, art installations, educational activities, and remote workers to get a little work done. We host luxurious indoor lodges where you can… In a calm atmosphere. This park is so impressive that it won USA Today’s Best Urban Park of 2024.
Another local treasure in Tulsa is the Philbrook Art Museum. Stunning architecture, modern and classic artwork, and expansive gardens make it a popular local destination. The museum also hosts a variety of events, from children’s field trips and meditation sessions to festivals and music events. Tulsa has 135 parks and more than 30 entertainment and residential districts, giving it the feel of a small community with big-city amenities.
Tulsa is Oklahoma’s second most populous city after Oklahoma City, with more than 411,000 residents. What I noticed right away was how little traffic there was in Tulsa. Even an Uber driver who lived in Dallas, Texas, said he loves Tulsa because of its size, low traffic density, and low cost of living. That brings me to my next point. Oklahoma ranks as the most budget-friendly state in terms of food costs, and Tulsa ranks in the top 10 best large cities for first-time homebuyers. Tulsa also has an international airport just eight miles northeast of the downtown area, as well as 15 community hospitals and primary care medical facilities. You can also easily get around the city by foot, electric scooter, car, or Tulsa’s MetroLink.
instant community
What’s unique about this program and why? What makes this so successful is that program participants are welcomed into a new community of remote workers. In addition to the $10,000 grant, new residents will receive a complimentary three-year membership to coworking space 36 Degrees North (soon to be rebranded as Gradient).Tulsa Innovation Hub).
This new (coming in 2025) huge multi-level space is perfect for freelancers, entrepreneurs, small business owners, startups, Tulsa Remote members, and anyone else who embraces remote work. In addition to offering coworking space, meeting rooms, and event space, the company also offers unlimited coffee and snacks, complimentary printing, copying, and scanning, notary services, locker rooms and showers, one-on-one coaching, and monthly lunch specials. , happy hour, etc.
Along with a coworking community, Tulsa Remote participants are paired with a dedicated team member. You also have access to a Slack community where you can talk to other members and connect over common interests. Tulsa Remote also hosts more than 10 carefully selected events each month for members to build and nurture relationships.
Many of the members I spoke with said they are more active in Tulsa than ever before. This is due to several factors, including events hosted by Tulsa Remote, ease of travel from one location to another, increased volunteer participation, and a vibrant live music scene.
Tulsa Remote Member Comments on the Program
I spoke with many Tulsa Remote members and they had positive things to say about the program. One of those members is Marvina Lally, senior financial analyst at Brighthouse Financial and Tulsa Remote Ambassador.
Moving to Tulsa was one of the best decisions of my adult life. Having just moved my second child into a college dorm in Florida, moving to Tulsa was the perfect opportunity to start my empty nest life.
Since then, I’ve picked up new hobbies like camping in the back of my car, rafting down the Illinois River, hiking Turkey Mountain to explore the best of nature, and walking the trails of Oxley. I was able to explore and identify. Nature center.
Being a graduate of the Tulsa Remote Program has given me the opportunity to build a community based on what I live today. By attending the seminar, I was able to find a new purpose in my professional life. I have been participating in a program to create measurable goals that will help you achieve personal success. I also earned a certification in data analysis. This is both a personal and professional goal. I am very proud of what I accomplished in the two and a half years I lived in Tulsa.
Although I initially moved here with no friends or family, within three years I was grafted into a loving family and developed many meaningful friendships and relationships. I’ve never felt so alone here in my life. Everywhere you go, you connect with familiar faces and meet new people.
