Why did I get my Prime Visa card before Amazon Prime Day?

Why did I get my Prime Visa card before Amazon Prime Day?

This article was originally published in July 2024.. The promotion mentioned may expire. Amazon Prime Day 2025 will be held from July 8th to 11th, 2025. Current details of the offer Prime Visa here it is.

Amazon Prime Day is happening. We all know what that means. During this special shopping holiday, Amazon Prime members get the chance to earn sweet savings on items they may have wanted for a while.

Last year, Prime Day found some pretty spectacular deals on Kindle Paperwhite and a set of new dishes. I’m very happy with all my purchases so far. I’m not planning a guaranteed purchase yet this year, but of course, my family is looking at at least some of the items that they want and needs.

But I’ve already signed up so this year it’s different for Prime Day Prime Visa. I got this card for a powerful cashback reward for everyday purchases purchased on Amazon.com. Having it on Prime Day will help you take your rewards and savings to a new level. Here’s a breakdown of why I decided to get this card and why you might want to get it too.

Getting 5% on Amazon is easy

I sometimes change my preferred payment method for my Amazon Prime account, but I didn’t get as much as possible when I bought a Prime Visa until I got a Prime Visa. The most rewarding credit cards I’ve had to buy regularly up until recently: Wells FargoActiveCash® Cardearn a flat 2% cashback when you purchase without an annual fee.

Prime Visa earns more than twice as many categories.

  • Amazon.com spending
  • Fresh Amazon purchases
  • Whole Foods Market Purchase
  • Purchase audible.com
  • Travelling through the Chase Travel Portal

Other bonus reward categories offered by this card are not bad either, including gas stations, restaurants, local transits (including ride-sharing) and 2% returning to commute. There are also Prime Card Bonus transactions that help users increase their rewards for eligible purchases that change throughout the year.

Of course, Prime Day offers you the opportunity to increase the price of a variety of exclusive and popular items. This will be paired with Prime Visa bonus rewards. At this point, some of the Prime Day deals I’m looking at, focusing on supplies and clothing that I’ve returned to school. You may also buy a new set of ring doorbells and new towels, both advertised at over 50% off.

Prime Visa is perfect for current Amazon Prime members

If you are already an Amazon Prime member, the fact that Prime Visa does not charge an annual fee is an important detail. This is a huge advantage as the reward rates are very high for Amazon and Whole Foods purchases.

My family regularly shop online, so we already earn a lot from our Amazon Prime membership throughout the year. This is another reason I signed up for a Prime Visa and why I plan to keep it in the long run.

For me, it’s important to have consumer protection built in.

Prime Visa comes with travel insurance, including more perks than many people notice:

  • Automobile Rental Coverage
  • Baggage delay insurance
  • Lost a refund for my package
  • Travel Accident Insurance
  • Travel and emergency support

But I really only use this card to buy Amazon and Whole Foods, so those perks don’t apply to me anyway.

The benefits that apply to my Amazon spending are still very appealing, including extended warranty protection for eligible items with manufacturer warranty and purchase protection against damage or theft. The extended warranty coverage associated with this card will increase the warranty period for US manufacturers by up to four years, provided the manufacturer has a manufacturer’s warranty of less than three years. Meanwhile, purchase protection from this card is worth up to $500 per bill and applies to eligible items for 120 days from the date of purchase.

Prime Visa offers flexible redemption options

I also like the fact that Prime Visa has so many redemption options. The fine print on the card says you can travel cashback, gift cards, or Chase Travel or redeem your purchases on Amazon.

These options work well for me as they are fully redeemed for Amazon purchases. And really, that’s the only redemption I’ve ever needed.

I usually wait from Amazon until I find something that costs more than I want to pay, or something that costs me to buy a “spread.” After that I use the reward to get items for free or discount. This was extremely rewarding considering the excellent cashback rates of Prime Visa.

Prime Visa offers attractive welcome offers

Prime Visa’s welcome bonuses fluctuate frequently, but I was able to get a solid welcome bonus when I signed up. At the time of writing, new cardholders will be able to get an Amazon gift card worth $250 immediately upon approval for Prime members only.

The minimum spending requirements for this offer are not listed, and making $250 on an Amazon gift card right away is a pretty decent deal, especially just before Prime Day. For comparison, other popular cashback credit cards* such as Wells Fargo Active Cash and ChaseFreedomFlex®* both offer new cardholders $200, but only after spending $500 within the first three months of opening an account.

Conclusion

It took me a while to sign up for my Prime Visa card, but I was finally able to maximize my family’s cashback on Amazon.com spending. I try to buy most things in the store as much as I can, but we rely on Amazon for items that are inevitably difficult to find and items that we want to deliver to our home within a few days.

However, I still strategically use my favorite travel and cashback credit cards for other invoices and items we buy. This game plan will help us make the most of the way we live and spend the whole year all year round, both on Amazon.com and elsewhere.
